BEWARE THE NEW ANDROID RANSOMWARE SIMPLOCKER!

BEWARE THE NEW ANDROID RANSOMWARE SIMPLOCKER!

Simplocker is a new Android-based malware that will encrypt your Android device and demand a ransom to unlock your files. This is another example of “Ransomware” moving into portable devices. ...
(smartphones, tablets, etc.)

When Simplocker finds files on your SD card with an extension of jpeg, jpg, png, bmp, gif, pdf, doc, docx, txt, avi, mkv, 3gp or mp4, they are encrypted using AES encryption.

What’s the ransom? About $21. Not as bad as CryptoLocker or Cryptorbit but certainly enough to make the hacker who is distributing it a tidy income. The encryption isn’t as sophisticated as its PC-based predecessors but certainly bad enough to be a royal pain in the neck.
